A visit to the pet shop is always exciting, when you are selecting a pet on behalf of an AFTRS student the stakes feel a little higher.
Let’s face it, it can’t be your run of the mill cat, and we have enough dogs wandering the corridors so I upped the ante on my recent visit to Birdsville, an exotic pet shop tucked away in Sydney’s inner west. From the moment I walked in it was an assault of colour and sound. I was surrounded by possibilities and sales assistant, Georgia, was quick to introduce me to the line up from bunnies, birds and mice. Each one had star quality…but the selection is there for you, dear student, to vote on.
On your behalf I browsed for a pet that that would appeal to students – low maintenance, inexpensive but bursting with character – something that could keep you company during late night edits and maybe even double as a presenter or extra in a film for a new side hustle.
