
This year was the first time the TCS Sydney Marathon has been held as a Abbots World Major.
At the end of August 35 000 runners descended on Sydney for the solitary goal of running 42.2 kilometers.
Ethiopian runner Hailemaryam Kiros won the race with the fastest time in Australia at 2 hours 6 minutes and 6 seconds. The fastest woman was Dutch runner Sifan Hassan did it 2 hours 18 minutes and 22 seconds.
Hassan has already announced that she will be running in the final Marathon of the year, the New York Marathon.
But why do people put themselves to these kinds of challenges? Could have to do with the chemical reactions in our brains.
‘Runner’s high’ has been flagged as possible reason which stimulates the cannabinoid system which is getting high.
