Green Music Australia have certified nine NSW live music venues as Green Venues.
Earlier this year Green Music Australia launched a landmark initiative, programmed to encourage venues to reduce their carbon footprint.
Research conducted by the organisation shows venues are a high contributor to emitting carbon emissions in the music industry… with overseas research putting their contribution at approximately 23% of the total impact.
Program results released last month confirmed that majority of these Green Venues are located in Sydney, including venues like The ICC, Club 77, The Landsdowne Hotel, Bondi Pavillion and Metro Theatre.
Chair of Board at Green Music Australia, Tracee Hutchison, said artists have the power to influence audiences and venues.
“They can request that their riders have no plastic associated with them… that they won’t play in venues that are not demonstrating their corporate social responsibility of doing something about it.”
