St Jerome’s Laneway Festival is coming back to Sydney in 2024 with a mix of local and international acts. With the line-up being released this past Tuesday morning we asked some AFTRS students what they thought of the festival’s bill for 2024. “I would consider going to the festival next year to help support the Australian music sense with the rise of streaming it’s one of the best ways to help local acts” One AFTRS student said. Many people telling me it all depends on who’s playing the festival in 2024 and if their social circle is interested in going next year.
A lot of the students that we chatted to seemed excited about it after showing them the 3 big headliners (Stormzy Steve Lacey Dominic Fike) that will be coming to Australia. But when I had a moment to take in this new information for next year’s festival the male-to-female artist ratio was quite strong leading towards the males. And even some students tell me it’s missing that one big local Australian act that everyone knows. I understand if you are a festival promoter in Australia it’s a balancing act on having a strong core of local acts but also having strong international acts to try to get people through the gates.
Here’s the full line-up as it currently stands:
Stormzy (exclusive), Steve Lacy (exclusive all shows except Sydney), Dominic Fike (exclusive), RAYE, AJ Tracey, Angie McMahon, Confidence Man, d4vd, Dope Lemon, Eyedress (first Aus shows), Faye Webster (first Aus shows), horsegiirL, Nia Archives, Paris Texas (first Aus shows), Skin On Skin, Suki Waterhouse (first Aus shows), Teenage Dads, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Blondshell (first Aus shows), DOMi & JD Beck (first Aus shows), Hemlocke Springs (first Aus shows), JK-47, Miss Kaninna, Pretty Girl, Vacations
