Marriage Equality: how we can get Australians to say ‘yes!’

As we wait to hear from the High Court of Australia whether the voluntary same sex marriage postal survey will go ahead or not, people are campaigning passionately to ensure that Australians are ready to say ‘yes’ to marriage equality.

Matt Dabner is a lecturer at AFTRS and was recently involved in a film shoot for a new ad that will be hitting our TV screens very soon. Matt joined Ellie in the AFTRS FM studio for Drive yesterday to talk about the campaign, how advertising might affect the outcome and how we can be on the right side of history.

Matt also spoke about a marriage equality rally happening this weekend in Sydney. It’s a chance for us to join together and declare our support for LGBTIQ Australians and loudly call for a YES vote, either by post or parliament (the rally is going ahead regardless of the High Court outcome). If you’re interested in heading along you it’s at 1pm outside Sydney Town Hall. The event is a collaboration between many local and national organisations including Equal Marriage Rights Australia, GetUp!, NSW Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby and Community Action Against Homophobia. Event details can be found here and speeches will be Auslan interpreted.
