Marriage equality ad parody: ‘They told my son he could be a bird’

With the voluntary postal survey on marriage equality set to take place later this month – assuming it survives the High Court challenges levelled against it – everyone’s trying to sway the public to their side.

The Australian Christian lobby released an ad last week that aired nationally in which a mother stated that ‘school told my son he could wear a dress’. It promised strange consequences if marriage equality were to be legalised.

But Melbourne comedian Toby Halligan thought the whole message was a bit odd. So he decided to create his own version of the ad that took a little more absurd angle on the whole thing.

Ellie Parnell had a more in-depth talk with Toby about the ad and the words being flung around while the postal survey looms.
